We Buy Cores
We buy Velvet Drive, ZF and Hurth marine transmission cores, and we buy them all the time to keep up our supply of rebuilt units. If you've got an old transmission lying around in the barn or the garage and you'd like to turn it into cash, give us a call.
What we buy
Velvet Drive cast-iron units, 5000s, V-drives, and ZF and Hurth transmissions. Chris has put out the call more than once for 5000s and for cast-iron V-drives in particular. One customer in Virginia Beach sent us 16 core transmissions at once.
What to send
Send the transmission itself. That's it. Don't send the cooling lines, the bell housing, the linkage or the mounts. We only need the transmission, and if you send the rest, it takes us extra time to get it all off.
Condition matters
You've got to send something we can use. One gentleman offered us a 72 series direct drive, and the bearing was so far gone nobody could ever reuse it. Units that have been under water can be in bad shape too. That's part of why we charge core charges on our rebuilt exchanges.
Fair dealing
We're fair with everybody we deal with. Chris has paid a seller what he promised on a core even when it turned out he'd cheated himself. As he put it, he's been around too long to cheat people.
